How a move to Portugal actually runs
Moving from the UK to Portugal
A move to Portugal is handled far more times than a move within the UK — loaded, consolidated, driven across two countries, cleared through customs, and for the islands shipped and transferred again. Every one of those is a point where a weak plan shows.

Survey and plan
We look at the UK property and work out what is genuinely going. Then we ask the question that matters most: what is the access like at the Portuguese end? That answer shapes the vehicle, the crew and whether a shuttle is needed.

Export packing and inventory
Everything is wrapped to export standard and written into a valued inventory. That inventory is not administrative box-ticking — customs requires one, and on an island consignment it is how you check what came out against what went in.

Customs, prepared together
The export declaration out of the UK, the import clearance into Portugal, and the Transfer of Residence claim where you qualify. You supply documents and confirm values; we do the rest.

The journey
Overland through France and Spain for the mainland. For Madeira and the Azores, overland to a Portuguese port and then a sea leg — with an inter-island transfer if you are not going to the main island.

Delivery and unpacking
Into the property, into the right rooms, furniture reassembled, and the empty cartons taken away. Where a large vehicle cannot reach the door — which is common in Sintra, Madeira and the walled towns — the last leg runs on a shuttle.

Do you only move to Portugal?
Yes. Portugal is the only destination we handle, and within it we concentrate on the coast, the north and the Atlantic islands — Cascais and Estoril, Sintra, Coimbra, Braga and the Minho, the Silver Coast, Madeira and the Azores.
How do my things actually get to Portugal?
For mainland destinations, by road: across the Channel, down through France and Spain, and into Portugal. For Madeira and the Azores there is an overland leg to a mainland Portuguese port and then a sea leg, because there is no road to an island.
Full load or part load?
A full load is your household alone, on its own vehicle or in its own container, with dates you choose. A part load shares the space with other consignments going the same way, which costs considerably less in exchange for collection and delivery falling inside a window rather than on a fixed day. Most households moving to Portugal take a part load.
What paperwork do I need?
A valued inventory of everything being sent, a Portuguese NIF number, proof of your address in Portugal, identity documents, and a customs declaration in both directions. If you are moving permanently you will usually qualify for Transfer of Residence relief, which removes duty on used household goods but has conditions attached. We prepare the set with you.
How long does it take?
It depends on the destination, whether your goods travel as a full or part load, how quickly customs clears, and — for the islands — the sailing schedule. Your written quote carries an estimated window for your specific move. We do not publish a single figure, because a road delivery to Braga and a sea consignment to Flores are not remotely the same journey.

Yes — London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh and everywhere between. The UK collection is the easy part; it is the Portuguese end that needs the planning.
